Japanese CD Promo Card List
The CD Promo cards came inside Pokémon Song Best Collection (Pikachu Records, TGCS-570, 1 January 1999): ten Japanese promo cards plus one English Base Set Pikachu, put in so Japanese players could see the Western card back. Charizard, Blastoise and Venusaur carry the Pikachu Records lightning bolt — the same three cards the 1998 Trade Please campaign handed out — and Mew, Mewtwo and Super Energy Retrieval are glossy rather than holo. Japan-only. This page lists every card with its printings priced separately — 11 printing records — and every one opens its own record with the prices, the printing notes and where to buy.

Japanese CD Promo At a Glance
How many cards are in the Japanese CD Promo?
The set holds 11 cards, released January 1, 1999. This site tracks 11 printings of them (Glossy 3 · Holo 4 · Standard 4), each with its own record and price.
What printings does it have?
Each card has one print; the labels separate the package's finishes — Standard (the three Trade Please starters plus Arcanine and Trade Please), Holo (Snorlax, Porygon) and Glossy (Mew, Mewtwo, Super Energy Retrieval). Source: package contents, TGCS-570.
What is the most valuable card in the set?
Charizard #6 at $469 raw, about $7,678 in PSA 10. One raw copy of every printing here totals $1,599.
How do these cards relate to the English printing?
No English version of these cards exists. None Japan-only package (its one English card is a Base Set Pikachu), so these are the only printings of these cards that were ever made. They are one of just two Japanese releases of the era with no English counterpart at all.
How do I tell a Japanese CD Promo card apart from the English printing?
Turn it over, which is the quickest tell there is: this set predates July 2001, when Japanese cards carried the Pocket Monsters Card Game back — a design no English card ever had, against the blue Pokémon back. The back changed once, with Pokémon VS in July 2001, so the back alone dates a card to this era.
Either way, the symbol beside the number is the Japanese set's own, not the English set's.
Prices are PriceCharting sold comps read 2026-11-06 and are per printing; card numbers, rarities, types and illustrators come from TCGdex's Japanese card data (set None). One raw copy of every printing on this page totals $1,599.
