Both are live searches for this printing, not listings — the prices above are sold comps, and asking prices will differ. eBay links are affiliate links (eBay Partner Network); we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Base Set 2 had one print run. It was released in English only, in February 2000, with no 1st Edition, no Shadowless and no 4th print — so a Base Set 2 card is never stamped “Edition 1”. This card is the exception in the set: it also exists with a gold W stamp, shown beside it. Tap a printing to open its page.

W Stamp promo. Not a print-run error: Wizards of the Coast stamped a gold foil “W” — part of its own logo — onto one card from six different expansions, seven cards in total, between September 1999 and March 2001. Wizards produced them in small numbers and most went out through Pokémon magazines rather than retail packs, which is why a stamped copy is much scarcer than the plain printing of the same card. The stamp was applied after printing, so the card underneath is the ordinary card. How to tell: the gold “W” on the face of the card; no stamp means it is the set printing, not the promo. Source: Bulbapedia, W Promotional cards (TCG). The Base Set 2 W Stamp. Wartortle is one of the seven W cards Wizards stamped, and this is where the Base Set 2 one came from: it was distributed through Top Deck Magazine (March 2000) rather than in packs, which is why a stamped copy trades far above the plain Base Set 2 Wartortle. The stamp went on after printing, so the card underneath is the ordinary Unlimited card. Source: Bulbapedia, Base Set 2 (TCG) — Additional cards; PriceCharting product note.
